Applebee’s Nutrition Calculator: Calories, Protein, Carbs & Sodium

Finally, enjoy your favorite meals without the hidden nutritional regret. I’ve spent years analyzing casual dining traps, and the Oriental Chicken Salad is the biggest offender on the Applebee’s menu.

This tool removes the guesswork and reorganizes how you read the menu. It’s heartbreaking to find your “healthy” choice is secretly 1,310 calories. Use the Applebee’s Nutrition Calculator below to build your exact meal, appetizer, entrée, sides, dessert, drinks, and see the full nutritional reality before you order. The salad is the heaviest of the three by a wide margin. At casual dining, the healthy-sounding thing is often the trap. Build your meal below.

The short version

  • The salad beats the burger, badly. Oriental Chicken Salad ~1,310 cal vs Classic Burger ~830.
  • But it’s fixable. Grilled, no dressing, the same salad drops to roughly 589 calories.
  • Sodium is extreme. Reported figures put the Chicken Fajita Rollup near 4,030 mg, about 175% of a full day’s value.
  • Some menu items contain alcohol. Applebee’s says so on its own menu. Worth knowing.

What this calculator actually does

It totals calories, protein, carbs, fat and sodium for a complete Applebee’s meal, the appetizer you’re splitting, the entrée, the side you swapped, the dessert, and the drink.

Casual dining is a different problem from fast food. At a drive-thru you order one thing. Here you order four, plus bread, plus a refill. Applebee’s publishes the numbers honestly, and then serves them on a plate designed to look normal.

That’s the gap. Nobody’s hiding anything. It’s just that a full meal is an assembly, and nobody assembles it in their head while the server is standing there.

How to use it in ten seconds

  1. Pick your entrée first. It anchors everything.
  2. Swap your side. This is where free calories live.
  3. Add the appetizer, the one you’re “just having a few of.”
  4. Add drinks and dessert. Cocktails and sodas are not garnish.

Then do the useful thing: put in your usual order, then switch the fried protein to grilled and move the dressing to the side. On some dishes that single change is worth 700 calories.

The salad is the trap

This deserves the space, because it’s the most useful thing on this page.

DishApprox. caloriesApprox. sodium
Oriental Chicken Salad~1,310~2,080 mg
Classic Burger~830,
Bourbon Street Steak~570,
Oriental Chicken Salad Wrap~1,890,

A salad with roughly 76g of fat. More calories than the burger. More than double the steak. And the wrap version, same idea, wrapped, reportedly approaches 1,890 calories, which is most people’s entire day.

Why? Two ingredients. The chicken is fried, and the dressing is sweet and poured generously. The lettuce is innocent. Everything on top of it is not.

Now the good news, and this is the part worth remembering:

The grilled version, ordered without dressing, comes in around 589 calories.

Same salad. Same restaurant. Roughly 720 calories live entirely in the breading and the dressing. Ask for grilled chicken and dressing on the side, then use half.

That’s not deprivation. That’s the same dish, ordered correctly.

The wider rule at Applebee’s: never assume the salad is the light choice. Check it. It frequently isn’t.

Sodium here is a different order of magnitude

Fast-casual chains flirt with the daily sodium limit. Applebee’s laps it.

Reported figures for some entrées:

  • Chicken Fajita Rollup, ~4,030 mg sodium (~175% of the FDA daily value)
  • Fiesta Lime Chicken, ~3,740 mg
  • Oriental Chicken Salad, ~2,080 mg
  • Riblets Platter, ~1,880 mg

The FDA’s daily value is 2,300 mg. The American Heart Association’s ideal target is 1,500 mg.

So a single entrée can carry nearly two days’ worth of ideal sodium. Add an appetizer and you’re well past.

What actually lowers it:

  • Grilled over fried, every time.
  • Sauces, glazes and dressings on the side. Bourbon glaze, Mexi-ranch, queso, these are the sodium.
  • Skip the cheese layer on chicken dishes.
  • Plain baked potato or steamed broccoli instead of loaded sides.
  • Split an entrée, or box half before you start.

That last one is not a diet tip. It’s portion arithmetic. Applebee’s plates are built for sharing whether or not you share them.

The lighter side of the menu

There are genuinely good options, and they’re not all salads.

ItemApprox. caloriesNotes
Bourbon Street Steak~570Surprisingly light for a steak
Grilled chicken breastlowerBest base to build on
6 oz sirloinlowerLean, high protein
House saladlightWith dressing on the side
Steamed broccoli~lowBest side on the menu
Grilled Oriental Chicken Salad, no dressing~589The fix, applied

The single best swap: replacing loaded mashed potatoes with steamed broccoli saves roughly 270 calories and cuts sodium meaningfully. It’s one word to your server.

For protein, Applebee’s is genuinely strong, steaks, sirloin, grilled chicken and ribs all deliver. A full rack of baby back ribs carries about 1,510 calories with 86g of protein; a half rack is roughly 760. The Riblets Platter delivers 82g of protein at 1,310 calories. Protein is never the problem here. Portion is.

Appetizers, drinks and dessert

Appetizers are entrée-sized. Classic Boneless Wings run around 1,100 calories for an order. Spinach artichoke dip, nachos and mozzarella sticks are all in shared-plate territory whether or not anyone shares them.

Drinks are not free. A medium soda adds 200 to 300 calories. Cocktails add more, and Applebee’s is a bar as much as a grill. Water and unsweetened iced tea are zero.

Dessert can equal a meal. A brownie sundae is a full entrée’s worth of calories arriving after you’ve already eaten one. Split it four ways and it’s a lovely idea.

Two things Applebee’s tells you that nobody reads

These are on Applebee’s own menu pages, and they matter.

1. Some menu items may contain alcohol.

Applebee’s states plainly that certain dishes may contain alcohol, bourbon glazes, wine reductions, and similar. If you avoid alcohol for religious reasons, for recovery, during pregnancy, or for any other reason, this is worth asking about by dish, because it isn’t always obvious from the name.

2. There’s a California Prop 65 warning.

Applebee’s posts a notice that certain foods and beverages served can expose you to chemicals including acrylamide in many fried or baked foods, and mercury in fish, known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. This is standard for restaurants operating in California and appears on many chains’ materials. Context matters: acrylamide forms naturally in many cooked starchy foods. It’s not a reason to panic; it is a reason to know.

Applebee’s also flags that items marked with an asterisk may contain raw or undercooked ingredients, which raises foodborne illness risk, particularly for people with certain medical conditions, and for pregnant guests.

Allergens: what Applebee’s provides, and what it can’t promise

Applebee’s does this well. The brand publishes an interactive nutrition calculator, an ingredient tool, an allergen and lifestyle filter, and a vegetarian/vegan guide. The allergen filter covers the nine major allergens, egg, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts and wheat, and additionally flags sulfites and gluten-containing ingredients. You can filter the menu to show only items that fit.

That’s genuinely more than most chains offer.

But the limit is stated just as plainly: Applebee’s cannot ensure that menu items do not contain ingredients that might cause an allergic reaction or impact other dietary restrictions. Kitchens share equipment and surfaces. There’s no certified gluten-free preparation.

Use the filter to narrow. Then talk to your server.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the Applebee’s Nutrition Calculator?

It’s a good estimate. Applebee’s nutrition information is based on standard product formulations and serving sizes, with a 2,000-calorie diet used for general guidance. Actual values vary with preparation, portioning, regional supply and menu changes, and additional nutrition information is available on request at participating locations. Casual dining plates are hand-assembled, so a heavier ladle of dressing or glaze moves the number. Treat it as a close planning figure.

Does Applebee’s have an official nutrition calculator?

Yes. Applebee’s hosts an interactive nutrition calculator on its website, alongside an ingredient tool, an allergen and lifestyle filter covering nine major allergens, and a vegetarian and vegan guide. It’s one of the more complete official toolsets in casual dining.

How many calories are in the Oriental Chicken Salad?

Around 1,310 calories, with roughly 76g of fat and about 2,080 mg of sodium, more than the Classic Burger. Ordered grilled and without dressing, the same salad drops to roughly 589 calories. The fried chicken and the dressing account for most of the difference.

What is the healthiest thing at Applebee’s?

The Bourbon Street Steak (~570 calories) is unusually light for an entrée. A 6 oz sirloin or grilled chicken breast with steamed broccoli and a plain baked potato is a strong, high-protein plate. A grilled salad with dressing on the side works well too, just never assume “salad” means light.

Why is Applebee’s so high in sodium?

Glazes, marinades, cheese, dressings and sauces stack fast at casual-dining portions. Reported figures put the Chicken Fajita Rollup near 4,030 mg and Fiesta Lime Chicken around 3,740 mg, well above the FDA’s 2,300 mg daily value. Ordering sauces on the side, choosing grilled over fried, and splitting entrées are the most effective reductions.

Can I eat low-carb or keto at Applebee’s?

Yes. Order a steak, sirloin, grilled chicken or salmon, skip the fries, bread and pasta, and pair it with steamed broccoli or green beans. Ask for sauces and glazes on the side, since many are sugar-based. Applebee’s steaks and grilled proteins are a solid keto foundation.

Which side should I swap?

Trade loaded mashed potatoes for steamed broccoli. That single change saves roughly 270 calories and cuts sodium noticeably. A plain baked potato is another good option, the loading is what costs you, not the potato.

Do Applebee’s dishes contain alcohol?

Some do. Applebee’s states that certain menu items may contain alcohol, typically in glazes, sauces and marinades. If you avoid alcohol for any reason, ask about the specific dish rather than assuming from the name.

Is Applebee’s gluten-free friendly?

There’s no certified gluten-free preparation. Applebee’s does flag gluten-containing ingredients in its allergen tool and lets you filter the menu, which helps, but the company states it cannot ensure items are free from ingredients that might cause an allergic reaction, and kitchens share equipment. Anyone with celiac disease should speak with the restaurant.

Go build your meal

Applebee’s isn’t dishonest about any of this. The calculator is on their site, the allergen filter is genuinely good, the numbers are published.

The problem is that a fried salad with sweet dressing doesn’t look like 1,310 calories, and a steak doesn’t look like 570. Your instincts, at casual dining, are pointing the wrong way.

Scroll back up, build the meal you actually order. Then switch the fried to grilled, move the dressing to the side, and look again. That’s usually the whole fix.
